Alan Ross
"I started
painting as young boy under tuition from my older sister and even
managed to win a prize at the local Leek Show for a portrait of that
same sister (I must confess, she assisted greatly with the finished
product). However I didn’t pursue this promising start and instead
enlisted in the navy at 15yrs of age - keen to travel and see the world.
On return to
civilian life many years later, now married with a family and living on
the West Coast of Scotland, I started painting Animal Portraits in oils
on black velvet. Exhibiting them to my colleagues in the local
factory produced astounding results; I was given hundreds of commissions
for every type of cat, dog and horse in existence, plus pigeons, parrots
and even goldfish! Factory closure and new employment brought me
to Dalgety Bay and the Art Club, where I now run two very enthusiastic
art classes within the club covering Watercolour, Acrylics and Pastels.
I paint in all mediums and cover all subjects, but above all I enjoy
painting Marine Art in oils, where my seagoing experience assists
greatly with the technical aspects of the compositions."
